Barcelona Testing Day 4 - It's time for Massa!!

 21/2/11,
The performance tests of Formula 1 in Barcelona ended with Felipe Massa stealing the show, and scoring the best time of all the 4 days. The weather at the Circuit de Catalunya maintained good on Monday and allowed the teams to complete their programs, apart from Lotus, who picked up and left early, after the departure of Jarno Trulli who destroyed the front of his T128. In today's tests 11 teams participated instead of 12 teams because HRT did not appear in the today tests as it was known.

Following the developments in Bahrain is unknown when and where to place the subsequent tests, however, it is considered certain that there will be a minimum 4 days before the start of the season in Australia. Massa covered 121 laps as he worked through a comparison of the Pirelli tyres whilst running different fuel loads and car set-ups. Felipe Massa did more than 120 rounds, in one of which he was the fastest we've ever seen this year in Barcelona. The Brazilian was focused on covering large distances with his Ferrari F150 Italia but made some efforts of two rounds, in one of which he achieved the 1:22.625. This time is 8 tenths faster than that of Mark Webber, who was second on the list of the time periods. The Australian was not as productive as yesterday completing 69 laps.
Sebastien Buemi continued the tradition of his in "building" a fast car which can rank in high positions in the tests. The Swiss scored the third best time period. Robert Kubica’s stand-in Nick Heidfeld continued to become acquainted with his new charge for the foreseeable future, clocking the fourth fastest time in Renault's R31. He completed 95 laps.

“In the morning we were not able to do most of our schedule because we had an issue with the KERS,” said Heidfeld. “It’s a shame because track time is so limited, but it’s obviously better to have problems during testing before the season starts. The German seems to be conditioned more and more of the Renault car in the morning and although he lost much time due to a problem in KERS, and managed to complete 95 laps scoring the fourth best time period.

Something which was definitely wanted in McLaren was covering long distances and Lewis Hamilton did it today, doing 107 laps and taking the fifth position in the rankings. Pastor Mardonado tried to cover some of the wasted time and made many rounds on the Spanish track, stopping at 121. The driver from Venezuela, was the sixth fastest driver, ahead of Adrian Sutil's Force India, the Sauber of Sergio Perez and Jerome D 'Ambrosio of Virgin.

Michael Schumacher did not repeat yesterday's impressive time of Rosberg but obviously the interests of the Mercedes were different, with the German completing 114 laps. The day of Lotus ended early, when after completing only 14 laps Jarno Trulli had a frightening crash, caused by a mechanical problem and not from a driving error by his self. Surely his car was unable to continue racing destroy his car. The team did not have the required parts to repair the car so they could do nothing else but start packing. “I still think there are a great deal of positives to take from the test in terms of the pace of the car and the fact that we are on top of the reliability issues,” Gascoyne said. “With that in mind we leave here with work to do but still on target for where we want to be.” said the Italian.
