21/2/11,
After what happened in Bahrain, the situation created by the protests and their violent repression and what was discussed in recent days, the organizers of the race took the decision not to hold the first Grand Prix of the season on March 13. In this way they took F1 out of the difficult position who did not know how to handle this "hot" issue. This decision was taken by the Crown Prince of Bahrain who telephoned Bernie Ecclestone.
"We think the important thing for our country is to focus directly on issues of national interest. The priority of Bahrain is to overcome this tragedy and to rediscover what unites this country and to remind the world what good can be accomplished in Bahrain as a united nation, "said Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa.
It is not yet known if the race is postponed to another date in 2011 or is canceled for the whole year. This is something that probably will be decided later, providing that a date will be decided. It should also be assumed that the tests (3-6 March) before the Sunday race will be also canceled.
This development means that the first race of the season of Formula 1 will be held in the Grand Prix of Australia from 25-27 March.
