8/2/11,
Over 40 hours have passed listening to the news of the accident of Robert Kubica and I frankly feel more and more numb. Despite the positive development of the 7 hours initial surgery, a look at all the injuries and the careful study of the accident shocks me. Yes, things have gone positively, but the word positively is quite vague. It is good to be alive. It is good that they prevented amputation. It is good that he responds to stimuli and treatments. But hell, my soul is blackened. Forced to cover in detail the serious injury of this driver and the critical developments in the next few hours, I understand that my credibility is undermined. It is hard to pin down the feelings, to focus on the news. Drifted to find information of dubious validity, since I can not wait if there will be a formal announcement.
On Sunday morning I read thousands of comments and twits, views, opinions, predictions and wishes. Unfortunately, I find things that irritated me. From that people who take advantage of exploiting a tragic situation to make a grudge against their race, to the people who ignorant comment to say that Robert is just runny. And well the off-site audience that may not have knowledge of things and situations. The worst I read was the twit one of the best photographers in Formula 1, the Darren Heath. He knows a lot about photography but has no idea of morality. While all were sending messages of support and were praying for Kubica, he characterized the irresponsible and said that he could not imagine doing such nonsense as Alonso or Hamilton. Even if the basis of thinking that denies the need for this risk is acceptable, the way you stated it was reasonable cause severe reactions. Is it any wonder, who's the idiot then?
With regard to this sensitive issue, I think the head of Renault, Eric Boullier, gives a clear answer: "The rally is his life, his loves it. We knew the degree of risk that contained the same one. We didn't want a robot driver. Apparently the second half of the statement is not true. He wishes he could impose conditions that put other drivers bosses, but do not forget that Kubica is the most important asset of Renault. When they need you, they accept your terms and conditions and for him were to run in the rally. Many of you are wondering why it had to take risks. But simply because they do not perceive the risk! Do not forget that this drivers at that level, there are not ordinary people like you and me. They live in another dimension, understand different terms such as 'risk', 'speed', 'danger'. When a single day at the office means you will drive at 330 kilometers per hour, then it is reasonable to ask for large doses of adrenaline in your every endeavor.
If Robert could have lost control at any other of the race, the only thing that would have been hurt would be his selfishness. It happened at one point which was a trap, which had been identified by his co-driver and from many other competitors. And it happened with the most cruel way. Seeing the barrier which has penetrated the Fabia, I realize that the 26 year old could have instantly lost his life. Of course, if he would have remained disabled with a memento of the event, that would may make him reconsider again if he was lucky or not. Because such people can't live without adrenaline and no speed.
In Jerez therefore logically should lead Senna, while the British team will be looking for someone who best suits to them, in the light of the new season. And we all would hope that Robert Kubica will succeed every day his own victories. Presented as possible we know that is the body to react with speed ... Formula 1! I hope that he will recover fully, and some time to see him back on the slopes.Because he deserves more than to finish so abruptly a career that had not yet even approached its climax of recognition!!
