11/3/11,
The British driver aims to the top 5 positions in the first races of the season!!
Given the many problems which are encountered so far in the development tests in the MP4-26, the McLaren driver (Lewis Hamilton) dropped significantly the bar by setting a target for the first Grand Prix rather than the presence on the podium but ... the top five.
"If now I believe we have a car capable to take the championship? I do not think so, no. This does not mean that it is not feasible to be a car champion. I have faith in my heart that I can win many more tournaments. I am not deleting this year, everything can be done. If we continue to push in the right direction in terms of its development, with the upgrades which are planned for the course of the season may hopefully allow us to reduce the difference and to fight for victories. If you get many points in the first race, then we will not be miles away. For example, if we are able to take five points in the first three or four Grand Prix, and then our car is capable of winning, then the title would be feasible. I am ready and when the car is ready, I will fight for victories, "said the 26 year old driver.
The presence of Hamilton in the second last day of the development testing which are made in Barcelona was affected by problems in the exhaust of the MP4-26. They spoiled the simulation program struggle with the British not managing to complete throughout the day nor the 66 rounds that make up the Spanish Grand Prix.
"It was a difficult day in which the needed miles weren't covered. I was hoping to cover over 100 laps, or at least cover a similar distance as a race. Usually at this time the program must include ongoing Pit stop and one or two simulations in one day. We do not even approached to a distance of one simulation. It wasn't a good day, although the feeling of the car was better, thanks to the upgrades that we have. At least there is something positive. We can do simulations of qualifying, without any problem. But, in which point we can get the trust or what is our real rate is unknown, admitted Lewis.
