The project of the team was about Nick Heidfeld to all the day in the cockpit of the R31, but a sickness of the German driver changed his plan and Vitaly Petrov led the afternoon. The Russian did not do many laps, however, he scored the third best time of the day.

Another team that gave away his car between the two drivers were Force India. In the morning, Nico Hulkenberg had his first contact with the VJM04 and scored the ninth time while in the afternoon the car was driven by Paul di Resta, who was sixth. Shared was the day of Lotus, which gave the two drivers of the group of Air Asia GP2 chance to drive an F1 car.
