2/3/11,
Hamilton and Button admit that the MP4-26 hasn't gone very well so far!!
In the development tests which are carried out so far, McLaren is not impressed with their performance - quite the opposite. Apart from the reliability problems, which didn't allow Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button to make several kilometers with their MP4-26, their time periods were not very good, which triggered several debates in the paddock-and to the community of the Formula 1 in general-on the competitiveness of the car.
The negative findings which were emerged from these discussions, are now confirming the sayings of the team's drivers, who now admit openly that there is a problem, however, they express their optimism that they will find solutions before the start of the new season.
Lewis Hamilton locates the problem in the lack of downforce, but told to Reuters that the situation is much better than it was in the same period of 2009: "In the season of 2009 the car was made too bad because in the turns it bounced on three wheels, and constantly was blocked and had no downforce. This car does not block, don't jumps and behaves very well, but we don't not enough downforce, so probably this is our weak point. I hope we will have more downforce on the car before the start of the first race. "
In the same vein were the statements of Jenson Button: «When I drove for my first time the new car, my first reaction wasn't like 'yes, we will flatten them!', No. I do not think that someone could feel so, because the car had much less downforce and the new tires worked very differently from their predecessors. But there is nothing that scares me in the car and many can be corrected by working on the set-up. We still have four days and I hope everything will go well in the subsequent tests, do many laps and improve the base that we have. There is much we can get out of the car and we have not done it yet because we did not have the required time. We have not yet joined all the pieces so we don't know where to stand compared to the competition. "
