Update: Yesterday, the team of surgeons managed to prevent the amputation of the right hand of the 26 year old, Robert Kubica, seeking to restore functionality. However, this is just a part of multipleinjuries obtained in an accident and which state to another topic.
"The patient was hospitalized to the hospital with very complex lesions and large incisions in various parts of his body. Our priority was to save his arm and is a goal which is achieved. The second part of the operation included the restoration of the limb, and the tendons as were cut. Our next concern was the nerves and we were able to restore the two main nerves of the hand which had also suffered of significant damage. Today I tοοκ care of Robert and his hand is in relatively good condition. He shook even the fingers, which gave us hope. We'll see how things develop but currently it is difficult to make predictions, "said an expert on hand injuries, Dr Igor Rossello.
But this is just the first round of the very difficult struggle for Robert Kubica. Now that the bleeding is stopped and the effort to save his limb is completed we should soon move in the restoration of the other injures. This requires several new treatments.
"The patient should be subjected to other surgical procedures. Not only the points that have already intervened but also the other injuries which we were not able to address because of the severity of the condition. The priority was to stabilize the situation and deal with the serious injuries. As for the fracture in his leg, we'll need at least three or four months before the bone thickens again, "said Francesco Lanza, Director of Orthopaedic Hospital Santa Corona.
Finally, it should be noted that the first thing Kubica asked when he woke was the state of health of his co drive, Jakub Gerber, who as we know was not injured!!
